The last roof this house will need.
Natural slate, standing-seam copper, clay tile and cedar shake — installed across Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and the greater Triangle by craftsmen who have been doing this since 1987.
Where heritage meets precision.
High-end roofing is not a commodity. It is a discipline practiced by a handful of true craftspeople in this state. We have been among them since 1987.
Hand-Set, Every Piece
Every slate, tile and seam is set by hand by artisans averaging eighteen years on our crews. No subcontracted labor, ever.
Designed to the Architecture
We specify each roof to the house it sits on — 1920s Tudor to modern farmhouse — including copper valleys, half-round gutters and custom finials.
First-Grade Material Only
Unfading Vermont and Welsh slate. Twenty-ounce American copper. Kiln-fired Ludowici clay. No seconds, no substitutions, no exceptions.
Built to Outlast Us
Our slate and copper installations carry a seventy-five to one-hundred year service life. This is the last roofing decision most of our clients ever make.
Six ways to roof an estate.

Natural Slate
Hand-split Welsh and unfading Vermont slate. Fireproof, weatherproof, and the undisputed pinnacle of the trade.

Standing-Seam Copper
Twenty-ounce American copper, formed on site. Begins bright penny, settles into deep umber, ends in the storied verdigris.

Clay & Concrete Tile
Kiln-fired Ludowici and imported Spanish clay. For Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial and Georgian estates.

Cedar Shake
Number one grade Western Red Cedar, hand-split. Ages from honey through to a distinguished silver.

Synthetic Slate
DaVinci and Brava composite. The full slate profile at half the weight and half the investment.

Designer Asphalt
Luxury dimensional shingle in slate and shake profiles. Where budget or structure will not carry stone.

Trusted by Triangle estates.
“Central Carolina replaced the slate on our 1931 Hope Valley Tudor with such care you would swear it was the original roof — only better. Eleven weeks, one crew, one project manager, and not one surprise on the invoice.”
“We wanted standing-seam copper that would patina evenly across a west-facing elevation. They built three mockup panels and left them on the roof for a month before we chose. Two years on, it is exactly what they drew.”
“They handled the entire historic district submission for us. I had budgeted three months for approvals alone. They had it through in five weeks.”
Before you call.
Seventy-five to one hundred years for unfading Vermont slate, and humidity is not the enemy — fastener corrosion and poor flashing are. We use copper nails and copper flashing on every slate roof for exactly that reason.
Yes, and we prefer it. We provide shop drawings, material specifications and sample panels directly to your architect or designer at no charge.
We prepare and submit the full architectural review package ourselves, including material samples and elevation renderings.
Copper runs roughly twice the cost and lasts roughly a third longer, and it is the only one that develops a living patina. Steel in a Kynar finish holds its original color for thirty years. It is an aesthetic decision more than a performance one.
We repair. Roughly a third of our slate work is targeted repair and flashing replacement on roofs with forty good years left in them.
Six to fourteen weeks on natural slate and imported clay tile. Two to four weeks on synthetic slate, cedar and designer asphalt.
